La Clairière is organising a contact improvisation dance workshop with Catherine Kych on 7 and 8 June 2025, during the Whitsun weekend.
And what's more, we're giving you Monday off to enjoy the island and its beaches; you can surf the contact improvisation wave or the ocean!
So much for the beach, but what is contact improvisation?

So much for the beach, but what is contact improvisation?
"Contact improvisation offers us the immense pleasure of being able to continue, once we're adults, to play with others physically, hand to hand, to be able to invent potentials together that we couldn't imagine alone and to dialogue together without words with ever greater finesse.
By inviting situations of instability and urgency (falls and flights - shared, moreover), contact improvisation makes our own tensions and absences - which are bound to be activated in these stressful situations - perceptible to ourselves. At the same time, it gives us the means to undo them and gradually inhabit the world in an increasingly flexible, open, creative and resilient way.
To achieve this, everyone on the course will have the opportunity to go at their own pace, and together we will create the conditions for a stimulating, joyful and safe learning space.
The course will alternate moments of specific study with more open moments of integration and branching out. We'll go through some very physically involved explorations, but also some more somatic ones."
THE SPEAKER: Catherine Kych
Catherine Kych has been dancing for almost thirty-five years. Classical dance is her common thread, but in search of spaces of freedom, play and sharing, she plunged into contact improvisation in 2007. She was enthusiastic about this non-normative practice, which offered the chance to meet 'others', first through touch and movement - and then through words - and to build and deconstruct the world with them.
Along the way, she acquired a range of tools to deepen her dance and support practices: training in 'Dance and Movement Therapy' (using, in particular, the tools of perceptive psychopedagogy and fasciatherapy developed by Danis Bois), the D.U. in 'Dance and Somatic Education' from Paris VIII, and training in Explicitation Interviewing, which turned out to be the tool she needed to help dancers put their experience into words. Since then, she has been an active member of GREX (www.grex2.com), the explicitation research group founded by Pierre Vermersch.
Her practical and theoretical knowledge of attention - particularly in meditative practices - has more recently been supplemented by a D.U. in 'Medicine, meditation and neuroscience' from Strasbourg. And most recently, Catherine has trained in Ericksonian hypnosis to better understand the links between imagination, perception, language and relationships, and how they influence the mechanisms of creation, learning and change.
